The Last Lighthouse Keepers [2006]

Today, lighthouses across the UK are fully automated and empty of inhabitants. Lighthouse keeping is a traditional way of life now lost to us. For this film we visited three of the final generation of lighthouse keepers, and asked them to reflect on the experience of a singular, oft-romanticised way of life.

Below, you can find edited transcripts of the interviews we conducted with former keepers Gerry, Bill, Eddie - and also Dave, who did not appear in the final film.

We are indebted to Trinity House for their assistance with this project, as well as lighthouse keepers Gerry, Bill, Eddie and Dave. You can visit the website for Trinity House here: www.trinityhouse.co.uk

This film was made under the auspices of Goldsmiths University.
